What needs to change to make parliamentary offices safe for women?

23 February 2021

Who knew what and when? They’re the questions again dominating Parliament this week, as the federal opposition continues to put pressure on the Morrison Government over its handling of the alleged rape of former liberal political staffer, Brittany Higgins.

The Federal Government has announced four reviews in the wake of last week’s allegations by Ms Higgins that she was sexually assaulted by a senior male staffer in the office of the then-defence industry minister Linda Reynolds in 2019.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has apologised to Ms Higgins for the way the incident was initially handled but insists he only found out about it last week.

CPOW HDR Network member, labour lawyer, and former Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Employment Rights, Lisa Heap, was a recent guest presenter on this RN Breakfast segment, available here.
